Materials:
3" slotted wood base ½" F - stakes, 15@ 7 ½"
11/64" F - weaver #2 R - twining
11/64" FO - smoked weaver 7mm F - rim row
2 - 5" leather handles 3/8" FO - rims
dyed seagrass - rim filler 11/64" FO - smoked, lasher
15 beads
· Place the ½" stakes evenly into the slotted
base, smooth side up.
· Taper a piece of 11/64" flat reed and weave 3
continuous rows. Keep the rows snug to the base. Taper the end
to end your weaving.
· Twine 10 rows with #2 round reed.
· Upset all the stakes.
· Begin weaving the sides of the basket with 11/64"
flat oval (smoked). This is also a continuous weave, so again
the beginning. Weave 9 rows. Taper the end to end your weaving.
· With #2 round reed you will twine 5 rows. On the 3rd
row add in a bead between each stake.
· Going back to the 11/64" smoked reed weave 4 more
continuous rows.
· Weave one rim row with 7mm flat reed. Onto this reed
slide on the leather handles. Center them across from each other.
On this row you will need to make an adjustment of behind 2
to end your row.
· Tuck and cut the stakes.
· Rim with 3/8" flat oval around the inside and
outside of the basket. Use dyed seagrass for the rim filler
and double lash with 11/64" smoked flat oval.
